Complete resultsWALNUT, Calif. – The San Francisco women took to the track at historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium and produced solid results in the Mt. SAC Relays.
For
Elena Burkard, she put together a personal best in the 1,500 meters, finishing second in her heat. After leading for most of the race, Burkard fell back to fourth before coming back strong to nearly catch Vermont's Yolanda Ngarambe, getting clipped by 45 hundredths of a second. Burkard's time was good for ninth overall out of 143 competitors in the open division.
Madeline Haupert, also competing in the 1,500 meters, put together a solid finish as well. The redshirt freshman from LaCrosse, Wisc., moved from the pack to take the lead with 500 meters remaining. After opening up a late lead in Section 9, she got nipped at the line to take second in the section.
"Maddy ran great today," head coach
Helen Lehman-Winters noted. "She has been training very well and it was nice to see her finally put it together in a competitive race. I am really excited about where she is and really feel she has much more to come."
The Dons ran two in the 5,000 meter Olympic elite division, with
Jana Soethout coming in 11th after posting a time of 16:15.73.
"There were 45 women in the women's 5k, so Jana got a little trapped in the back," Lehman-Winters explained. "She had to muscle her way through a lot bodies to make her way up to the top half of the race, and she was just not quite able to get to move up to the front pack. But 16:15 is solid and certainly good enough to get to NCAAs."
Soehout's time currently stands in 53rd nationally, and Burkard, who broke the school record two weeks ago, stands in 28th on the qualifying lists. In the West, Burkard holds the 12th-best time with Soethout standing in 22nd. After finishing the 5,000 meters at Mt. SAC in 16:35.02,
Maor Tiyouri holds the 48th-fastest time in the West.
Heading into the final three weeks of the regular season, the Dons are slated to compete at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational Friday and Saturday in Berkeley, Calif.
