GENERAL TRIAS, Cavite -- USF senior Jobim Carlos shot a final round 72 to win the Philippine Amateur Stroke Play Championship at the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club's Aoki Course in General Trias, Cavite last weekend.

Carlos entered the final round with a slim one stroke lead over Robert Zaragosa. Zaragosa drew even with a birdie on the par-5 12th hole but Carlos took a two stroke lead with a birdie on the par-5 15th hole after Zaragosa made a bogey on the same hole. Carlos finished the tournament with a score of 289 to earn a a three-shot victory.

"I'm both happy and relieved," Carlos told the Manila Bulletin after nailing the elusive crown. "It was really a tough four-day ordeal at Aoki especially with the strong wind blowing the field in the last two rounds."

The title caps off a very productive winter break for Carlos, who earned medalist honors at the Philippine Golf Tour Qualifying School on the same course in General Trias in December. Carlos made five birdies on the back nine, including the last two holes en route to a final round 67.

The USF men's golf team will open its spring season at the Barona Creek Invitational, set for Feb. 9-10 in San Diego.
