Something old, something new.
In celebration of its rich and storied basketball history, USF will wear throwback uniforms for select games during the 2015-16 season, which gets underway with Thursday night's exhibition game against San Francisco State in Memorial Gymnasium.
The Dons' home white uniforms will feature the classic script "San Francisco" across the front of the jerseys, reminiscent of the uniforms worn by the USF of the late 1960's and early 70's. The traditional block "U.S.F." on front of the team's uniforms, popularized during the Bill Russell and K.C. Jones Era in the mid-50's, was replaced by the script "San Francisco" look for the 1967-68 season. Dons' teams featuring the likes of Phil Smith, Dennis Black, Pete Cross, Kevin Restani, Eric Fernsten, to name a few, wore the script "San Francisco" jerseys through the 1973-74 campaign before the team transitioned to the "USF" Roman-style lettering for the 1974-75 season. The Dons won three conference championships and made three NCAA Tournament appearances wearing the script "San Francisco" jerseys.
The Dons will continue to wear their modern gold and green uniforms this season, as well. Nike is the official supplier of all USF Basketball apparel.
USF will tip-off its season on Thursday, Nov. 5 with an exhibition game against San Francisco State beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Memorial Gymnasium. The Dons will open their regular season with a game at Illinois Chicago on Nov. 13, with the home opener set for Nov. 16 against Rice.
