STOCKTON, Calif. –– The USF men's tennis team finished day one of competition at the Pacific Tiger Invitational, struggling on the first day of competition in Stockton.
In the Flight A quarterfinals in doubles,
Woravin Kumthonkittikul and
Jerod Mah suffered a 6-2 defeat to Alexander Hunt and James Markiewicz of St. Mary's
Marco Barretto and
Jason Lee played in the Flight B quarterfinals against Jesse Ross and Eli Whittle, but lost 6-1 to the pair from UC Davis.
In the Flight A Round of 16,
Woravin Kumthonkittikul advanced past Daniel Krutik due to injury. However, in the quarterfinals, the Don lost to Andrew Poustle of Nevada 6-3, 6-1.
Alex Santiago had a strong first match, defeating Kumara Adavelly of Pacific. Santiago won the first set 6-3, lost the second set 2-6 and then won the third set in a tiebreaker, 7-5, to clinch a spot in the quarterfinals. Santiago then squared up against Manuel De Luis Lamalas of St. Mary's, but lost 6-3, 6-2. Mah also won his first round match in the Flight B, defeating Lance Ngo of Pacific, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals. However, Mah ran into a tough match against Robert Allan of Nevada 6-1, 6-3 and was eliminated.
Barretto also competed in the Flight B Round of 16, but suffered a 6-2, 6-2 defeat to Jacob Lagman of St. Mary's. Lee took on Matthew Campana of St. Mary's but came up short, losing 6-1, 6-3.
