
USF Claims Match Against the Aggies

LOGAN, Utah- The University of San Francisco's men's tennis team clinched a 4-3 win against Utah State this morning at the USO Outdoor Courts.
"This was a big win for our guys under tough conditions and against a really competitive team," said head coach Pablo Pires de Almeida. "Our guys really had to earn it and they all pulled together to get the victory."
The Dons gained the lead in doubles competition with wins from their second and third doubles pairings. Vasco Valverde and Nils Skajaa picked up a 6-3 win against Jaime Barajas and Jack Swindells. James Tallman and Christian Brockstedt confirmed the point for USF defeating Dennis Baumgartner and Marcus Fritz 6-4.
In singles play, James Tallman gave USF their second point with a dominating 6-1,6-1 win against Karan Salwan. The Aggie fought to catch up at No. 6 singles, but Saraiva gave the Dons a two point advantage with his strong win against Dennis Baumgartner in two sets, 6-4, 6-0.
Although Utah State took No. 5 singles to tie the match up 3-3, Nils Skajaa confirmed the win for the Green and Gold with his determination and perseverance. After a three set match against Swindells, Skajaa picked up the first set 7-5, and came back after losing the second set 4-6, to clinch the third set 6-2.
