USF's women's tennis team resumes West Coast Conference play on Saturday afternoon when the Dons play host to the University of San Diego at the Olympic Club. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
The Dons, 7-5 overall and 2-1 in the WCC, will look to get back on track following a narrow, 4-3 loss at Portland, a match that lasted over six hours. USF had won its previous two matches in impressive fashion over BYU and Santa Clara, jumping up to No. 39 in the ITA's Top 100 poll, the highest ranking in program history.
The Toreros bring a 1-6 mark into their conference opener and have dropped six straight duel competitions dating back to their last win on Jan. 25 vs. Cal State-Fullerton. San Diego finished 10-12 overall last season and was 4-5 in the WCC, The two squads staged a thrilling match in San Diego last season, with the Toreros coming out on top, 4-3.
San Diego has had the upperhand in the series, winning the last 11 dual competitions with the Dons dating back to USF's last victory, which came on March 11, 2007 in the finals of the USD Invitational.
Saturday's No. 1 singles match is expected to feature USF's
Andrea Ka against San Diego's Marta Stojanovic, while the Dons' team of Ka and
Marina Nikolic is expected to square off against the Toreros tandem of Dana Oppinger and Drew Spinosa in the top doubles match of the day.
Saturday's match commences with the three doubles matches, followed by the singles competition.
