SAN FRANCISCO – Nikki Turner joins the San Francisco women's basketball staff, announced by head coach Jennifer Azzi today.
Coming to the Dons with an extensive background as both an administrator and coach, Turner will act as USF's Director of Operations. With experience across multiple levels of the sport, she comes to the Dons most recently serving in the same capacity at Cal State Fullerton.
"I am excited that we have Nikki Turner on board," noted Azzi. "To gain a member to our team with so much experience strengthens our program in every way. Her background ranges from coaching, administration and operations. I look forward to working with her."
Prior to her one-year stint with the Titans, Turner was assistant coach, recruiting coordinator and lecturer at Shepherd (W.V.), and she also spent time as a student-athlete admissions and academic liaison at Academy of Art.
Turner's coaching resume includes stops at Hawaii Pacific, Cal State East Bay and San Jose State. She held multiple roles at UC Santa Cruz during a five-year span, including serving as head coach, assistant athletic director and senior women's administrator and sports information director.
Before embarking on her career working in women's basketball, Turner played two seasons at Chico State, where she was named first-team all-conference and served as captain for the Wildcats.
A two-time graduate of Chico State, she earned her degree in sociology in 1999. Turner obtained her master's in physical education with an emphasis in sports administration in 2001, and served as the Wildcats assistant coach for two seasons while obtaining her degree.
"I am excited and honored to have been chosen as the next Director of Basketball Operations at the University of San Francisco. I want to thank Head Coach Jennifer Azzi for entrusting me with this amazing opportunity," said Turner. "The energy and enthusiasm surrounding USF athletics right now is incredibly contagious, and from the moment I set foot on campus I knew this was the place for me. I'm looking forward to being on the Hilltop."
