Hugh Nicklason to Join the Dons

SAN FRANCISCO –– Hugh Nicklason, a Tasmania, Australia native, has signed an athletic aid agreement to attend the University of San Francisco, head track and field coach Helen Lehman-Winters announced on Thursday.

Nicklason, 19, will enroll as a freshman in January 2016 where he will have four years of track and fieldĀ eligibility.Ā

"We are thrilled to add Hugh to our program for our spring track and field season," Lehman-Winters said. "He is not only extremely talented but is a fierce competitor. He posted strong marks as a high schooler but he also has a ton of room for development and has big aspirations for his future."

Nicklason graduated high school from Elizabeth College in December of 2014 and has run personal bests of 1:49.46 (800M) and 3:46.33 (1500M). Last spring, Nicklason competed in the Australian Junior Athletics Championships at Sydney Olympic Park, placing third in the 800M and second in the 1500M.

"A lot of credit goes to Coach Wetli for his tireless efforts to bring the very best student athletes to San Francisco and those who share the same vision we have of competing amongst the best at the NCAA Championships," Lehman-Winters said.Ā
