
Dons to Run in Griak Invitational Saturday

SAN FRANCISCO –– The Dons will travel to Minnesota to participate in the Roy Griak Invitational on the University of Minnesota's Les Bolstad Golf Course on Saturday, September 26.
The Men's 8K will take place at 10:20 AM PT, immediately following a pair of Division II races. Headlining the field along with USF will be Arizona, Boise State, California, Michigan State as well as several other universities.
Running for USF will be Mohamed Aziz, Ryan Driscoll, Connor Cavassa, Matt Leach, Quentin Purtzer, Edward Shepherd and Alex Short.
"We are looking forward to putting together our best team on the starting line on Saturday," said head coach Helen Lehman-Winters. "We are coming off of a high volume solid training block and will have a wonderful opportunity to test ourselves in the field with some of the top ranked teams from numerous regions and throughout the country."
In the 2014 Griak Invitational, Nate Jewkes of Southern Utah finished first with a time of 24:45.4.
Last Time Out
On Sept. 11, Short won the 8000M dual meet against Boise State, finishing the course in 24:55.1. As a team, the Dons totaleld 33 team points, with the Broncos ending with 23.
About the Roy Griak Invitational
One of the largest meets in the country, the Griak includes six collegiate races and four high school races and begins with the Suzy Wilson Women's Maroon III (Division III) Competition at 9 AM.
2014 marked the 51st year of service to the University of Minnesota by legendary coach Roy Griak before his passing on July 9, 2015. Griak served as the head coach of the Minnesota men's cross country team from 1963-1996 and led the Gophers to three Big Ten titles (two cross country, one track & field). Griak remained on staff as an administrative assistant after handing over the reigns of the program to curent Director of Men's Track and Field and Cross Country, Steve Plasencia.
