Following a solid fourth place showing at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic last week, USF's women's golf team will head to the Langdon Farms Golf Club outside of Portland to compete in the Sixth Annual Rose City Collegiate, which gets underway on Monday.
Joining USF in the 15-team field are teams from Portland State, Oregon State, Boise State, Eastern Washington, Northern Colorado, BYU, Weber State, Colorado State, Montana, Nevada, Seattle, Louisiana-Monroe, Fresno State and St. Martin's.
The field will play 36 holes on Monday and wrap up with the final 18 holes on Tuesday morning. Langdon Farms will play to 6,057 yards and a par of 72 for this event. Live scoring will be available on GolfStat.com.
Head coach Sarah Glynn is expected to start the same lineup that finished fourth at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic, with seniors Clare Sorensen and Emelie Lundstrom, junior Ayaka Suzuki, freshman Mabel Wong and sophomore Vanessa Ha getting the nod for the Dons. In addition, junior Alison Lillie will get her first start of the young season playing as an individual.
USF turned in one of its best performances of the season at this event last year, finishing second in a 13-team field, three shots behind Cal State-Fullerton's winning score of 893. Lillie strung together rounds of 72-72-77 for a career-best fourth place finish.
"I think everyone felt like they left a lot out on the course in our first tournament and we still came away with a fourth place finish," said Glynn. "Four out of the five players in our lineup have played Langdon Farms each of the last two years and I think it's a layout we are comfortable with.
"As we enter our last three tournaments of the fall, it's important for us to focus on getting better each week and not worry about where we finish. That will take care of itself with increased focus, better course management and team chemistry."
Following the Rose City Collegiate, the Dons will make their annual stop at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Golf Club outside of Seattle. The fall schedule will conclude with an appearance at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Denver, Oct. 10-12 at Highlands Ranch.
