Know Your Dons: Clare Sorensen

2015-16 (SENIOR): First team WCC All-Academic selection for a third consecutive season…earned the USF’s Charles Harney Award for the senior female student with the highest cumulative grade point average…played in all 10 events and posted a stroke average of 76.2…enjoyed top-10 finishes at the Sacramento State Invitational (t-9) and the WCC Championships (t-6)…best finish during the fall came at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate where she t-22 at 4-over 220 (73-74-73)…opened the fall at the Peg Barnard Invitational at Stanford, where she t-29 (78-73)…t-39 at the Bay Area Intercollegiate (77-76) and t-21 at the BYU Entrada Classic (81-77-74)…posted two top-10’s in her final three tournaments of the year, beginning with the Sacramento State Invitational, where she t-9 at 11-over 227 (78-78-71)…jumped 25 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for ninth place with a final round 71…rounds of 79-77-75 (231) led to a t-60 at the Silverado Showdown…matched her career low round with a 68 in the third round of the WCC Championships to earn a share of sixth place…birdied her last two holes, including No. 18, when she walked in a 20-footer to close out her collegiate career.

2014-15 (JUNIOR): First team WCC All-Academic selection for the second consecutive season…played in all 11 events and finished with a stroke average of 76.86, fifth-best on the team…enjoyed one top-10 finish at the Oregon State Invitational, where she finished third…her 4-under 68 in the second round tied for the lowest round of the season…opened her second season on the Hilltop at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo., where she finished tied for 28th at 225 (+9) on rounds of 73-78-74…helped USF to a second place finish at the Oregon State Invitational, where she finished tied for third at 219 (+3) following rounds of 73-68-78…held the 36-hole lead by one shot following her 4-under 68 before ultimately finishing tied for third…was tied for sixth after two rounds (72-75) at the Rose City Intercollegiate but was forced to WD in round three…shot rounds of 80-77 at the rain-shortened Idean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee to tie for 45th…finished the fall with a t-41 at the Las Vegas Intercollegiate (73-74-77-224)…tied for 41st at the 36-hole Peg Barnard Invitational at Stanford (79-74-153)…withdrew after two rounds at the Bruin-Wave Invitational in Tarzana…tied for 17th at the BYU Entrada Classic (78-74-72-224)…rounds of 76-77-74 left her tied for 30th at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic…concluded the season with a 16th place finish at the WCC Championships (79-78-88).

2013-14 (SOPHOMORE): Honorable mention All-West Coast Conference selection…Women's Collegiate Golf All-America Scholar...also earned a spot on the WCC’s All-Academic team along with teammates Victoria House and Emilie Lundstrom…played in all 10 events and finished with a stroke average of 77.39, which was third-lowest on the team behind Alison Lillie and Ayaka Suzuki…was USF’s top finisher in three of its 10 events on the year…finished with a stroke average of 77.27 for her four fall events…played in the No. 2 position in the lineup for the last three events of the fall after opening the year in the No. 5 position…made her USF debut at the Hobble Creek Invitational where she tied for third at 220 (+7) on rounds of 74-73-73…tied for 25th at the Rose City Collegiate outside of Portland after posting rounds of 78-77 in soggy conditions at Langdon Farms…placed 60th at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational after rounds of 80-81-84 left her at 245 (+29)…carded rounds of 77-80-73 to tie for 25th at the Wyoming Cowgirl Invitational at the Classic Club in Palm Desert…tied for 17th at the Peg Barnard Invitational at Stanford at 149 (72-77)…turned in rounds of 83-77-76 (236) and tied for 44th at the UC Irvine Invitational…finished 7-over 223 and tied for 17th at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational held in San Jose…owned the outright lead after a carding a 2-under first round 70, which was the lowest individual round on the season…was 9-over for her final 36-holes after rounds of 76-77…broke 80 just twice in her next six rounds at the Fresno State Classic (80-77-84; t-38) and The Gold Rush (80-82-78; t-41)…was USF’s top finisher at the WCC Championships in Bremerton, Wash., where she tied for 10th at 228 (+12) on rounds of 73-78-77.

2012-13 (FRESHMAN): Posted a stroke average of 78.0 in 10 events as a freshman at Seattle University…tied for the team lead in stroke average…recorded two top-10 finishes among her four top-25 finishes on the year…tied for third in her first collegiate event at the Rose City Collegiate at Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora, Ore. with an 8-over score of 224…placed 59th at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational held at the Sahalee Country Club in Redmond, Wash. with a 28-over score of 244…carded a 230 for 54-holes to finish 27th at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert…tied for 16th at the Santa Clara Colby Invitational held at Silver Creek Valley Country Club in San Jose…posted a 12-over score of 156 and tied for 31st at the Cal Poly Invitational at Cypress Ridge Golf Club in Arroyo Grande, Calif.…tied for 31st at the Red Rocks Invitational at Oaktree Country Club in Sedona, Ariz. with a 12-over score of 156…tied for 61st at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at the Kane’ohe (Hawaii) Klipper Golf Club with a 54-hole score of 241 (+25)…tied for 52nd with a 23-over 233 at The Challenge at Onion Creek…tied for 69th at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic at the Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz. with a score of 254 (+29)…finished the season on a strong note, posting a 10th place finish at the Western Athletic Conference Championships at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. with an 8-over score of 224.

HIGH SCHOOL AND AMATEUR: Graduated from Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento, Calif….four-year varsity letterwinner…helped the Falcons to three divisional championships along with a regional and state championship in 2011…four-time all-conference selection…earned Scholar-Athlete recognition in 2010 and ’11…two-time all-division and all-city selection, as well…named team’s most improved player in 2008…three-time team MVP…also lettered in basketball…member of the Christian Service Corps and the National Honor Society…also earned numerous awards for community service and academic excellence…played on tours hosted by the First Tee of Greater Sacramento and The Junior Golf Association of Northern California…won the 2011 Northern California Junior Girls’ Championship at Spyglass Hill…also won the 2011 Sacramento City Junior Easter Championship…qualified for the 2012 U.S. Women’s Amateur at The Country Club in Cleveland, Ohio…did not qualify for match play after tying for 99th in the stroke play competition....advanced to the round of 16 at the California Women's State Amateur Championship.
