Davis, Calif. –– In its final match before West Coast Conference play, the USF men's tennis team lost 6-1 to UC Davis on Saturday afternoon. The Dons will now be off from match play for two weeks, with the conference-opener set for Feb. 20 against Pacific.

In doubles action, the Aggies took the overall point, winning at No. 2 and No. 3. Christian Brockstedt and Tynan Maguire took on Brett Bacharach and Eli Whittle in the No. 2 spot, but Davis won 6-1. Then, Bryce McKelvie and and Tommy Lam clinched the point over Thomas Takemoto and Ryan Marker with a 6-3 victory.

At No. 5 singles, Maguire made quick work of Jesse Ross, winning 6-0, 7-6(4). However, that would be the lone win for the Dons, as the Aggies went on to win the remaining five matches. 

Vasco Valverde had a chance to put the Dons up 2-1 in the No. 2 match, but James Wade won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Brockstedt, making his debut in singles this season, lost at No. 6 to Lam, 7-5, 6-3. The Aggies kept it going as Bacharach beat Takemoto 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3. 

Marker entered the day 4-1 in dual match play, and took the first set against McKelvie 6-4, but lost 7-6(6), 10-6 at No. 4. No. 1 singles was the last match of the afternoon and Nils Skajaa got off to a fast start with a 6-3 victory over No. 38 Alec Adamson in the first set. The Aggie came back to win the second set 7-6(6) and 11-9 in the third set for the clincher.

USF will be off from competition next weekend, and will begin conference play on Feb. 20 against Pacific at the California Tennis Club at 1 p.m.
