SAN FRANCISCO –– Behind clinching wins at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles by senior
Thomas Takemoto, the USF Dons beat Saint Mary's 4-0 and earn their first win in conference play.
In the opening doubles match, seniors
Nils Skajaa and
Vasco Valverde earned a 6-4 victory over Thomas Alexander Hunt and James Markiewicz at No. 1. The Gaels evened the doubles point on the No. 3 court, with Jacob Lagman and Manuel De Luis beating Lee and Brockstedt, 6-4. Desperately needing a victory to earn the doubles point, Takemoto and Woravin Kumthonkittkul took Nash Vollenweider and Brian Lee to a tiebreaker and came away with the 7-5 win.
The Dons continued the momentum onto the singles courts as
Ryan Marker made quick work of Vollenweider, winning the No. 2 match 6-3, 6-2. Skajaa, entering the match as the WCC Singles Player of the Week, continued to play great tennis with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Hunt at No. 1.
