USF Swept at Santa Clara, 4-0

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- USF's women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision at Santa Clara this afternoon, setting up a crucial final weekend for the Dons who still are in the chase to qualify for the WCC Championships in a few weeks.
The Broncos earned the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions, and then posted victories on courts 4, 5, 3 to complete the shutout. USF drops to 5-11 overall and 3-4 in the West Coast Conference while Santa Clara improves to 11-7 and 4-3 in the WCC.
After the Broncos tandem of Chelby Cooke and Madison Clarke downed Shanna Dos Santos and Hanna Borjeson, 6-1 on court 2, Santa Clara claimed the doubles point when Nabila Farah and Daniella Silva turned back the Dons No. 1 team of Andrea Ka and Thyra Taune, 6-3.
The match betwee to Holmberg-Gen McCloskey and Zeina El Tawill-Delphine Rouvillois was suspended tied at 4-4.
Santa Clara proved to be strong at the bottom of the singles' lineup, notching straight set wins on courts 4, 5 3 to close the match.
Chelby Cooke gave Santa Clara a 2-0 lead with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Shanna Dos Santos, 6-4, 6-3. Nabila Farah followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Sofia Holmberg on court 5 and then Madison Clark closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Gen McCloskey on court 3.
USF was leading in matches on courts 1 and 2 when play was suspended.

Both matches start at 12 noon. LMU brought a 3-3 conference record into its home match with BYU this afternoon while the Waves sit on top of the conference standings with a 6-0 mark.
