MALIBU -- The Dons finish off their season against No. 61 Pepperdine coming short with a 4-2 mark this afternoon at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
USF gained momentum taking the doubles point with wins from
Woravin Kumthonkittikul and
Tynan Maguire at court 2 and
Nils Skajaa and
Vasco Valverde at court 1. Kumthonkittikul served out the match down 0-30 in his best clinch in doubles of the season.
However, Pepperdine (11-11, 6-3 WCC) came back from behind to pick up the match 4-2.
Stefan Menichella tied up the slate for Pepperdine at No. 5 singles against Maguire 7-5, 6-2.
Ryan Marker responded with a win against Lautaro Pane in straight sets 6-2,6-4.
With the match at 2-1, the Waves clinched the match at fourth, first and third singles from players Jack Van Slyke, Guilherme Hadlich and Pedro Iamachkie.
After falling the first set 6-2 against Van Slyke, Valverde put up a fight to try to take the second set, but came short 7-5. Takemoto also battled Iamachkine and looked to stop the Waves, but fell 6-1,7-6(3).
USF men's tennis team will end their season with a record at 4-20 overall and 2-6 in WCC play.
