Chance Anderson, a 6-7, 210 forward from Alpharetta, Ga., has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at the University of San Francisco.
Â
Anderson attends Alpharetta's St. Francis High School where he averaged 12.6 points and 9.0 rebounds as a senior and helped the Knights reach the finals of the Georgia Class-A Private Championship. As a junior, he averaged 10.0 points and 7.0 rebounds on St. Francis' state championship-winning team that also featured Malik Beasley (Florida State) and Kobi Simmons (Arizona). Anderson also was a standout defensive end on the Knight's football team.
Â
He is the son of former Georgia standout Willie Anderson, a 10-year NBA veteran who was also member of the 1988 United States' Olympic Team and Carla McGhee, who played on Tennessee's 1987 and '89 NCAA Championship teams before embarking on a 13-year professional career that saw her win a gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
Â
"Chance is a late-blooming combo forward who has great length and a strong body," said USF head coach
Kyle Smith. "Although he has only been playing basketball year-round for one full season, he makes 3's, snatches rebounds and can guard multiple positions. Obviously, he comes from great bloodlines."
Â
Anderson will join previous signees Jordan Ratinho (Concord, CA / De La Salle HS), Jimbo Lull (Manhattan Beach, CA / New Hampton School), Charles Minlend, Jr. (Concord, NC / Fork Union Military Academy) and Remu Raitanen (Helsinki, Finland) on next year's roster. He is the third signee for Smith, who was appointed to his position on March 30th.
