SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Head coach Chris Gerlufsen and the University of San Francisco men's basketball program announced today the signing of guard Abdul Bashir (Omaha, Neb./Auburn).
"The Dons family is very happy to welcome Abdul Bashir to San Francisco," said Gerlufsen.
"Abdul is a gifted scorer who has the ability to put points on the board in a variety of ways, especially shooting off the dribble. He joins us from Auburn and Casper College, where he averaged over 27 points per game. We believe Abdul's all-around skill set will be a great help to our team this upcoming year. We look forward to helping him continue to grow and make an impact here on the Hilltop."
Bashir comes to San Francisco after spending one year at Auburn, where he appeared in six games for the Tigers before a season-ending injury. He made his Division I debut in Auburn's 95-90 win over Bethune-Cookman on Nov. 3, followed up by pouring in a season-high 10 points in a 95-57 win over Merrimack on Nov. 6.
Prior to Auburn, Bashir was a standout guard for two years at Casper College in Casper, Wyo.
In his final season with the Thunderbirds, the guard was named a NJCAA Division I second team All-American after averaging 27.2 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game. He also shot 41.1 percent from the field, 38.8 percent from beyond the arc, and 87.7 percent from the free throw line. Notably, the guard registered four 40+ point games, including recording a career-high 49 points versus Laramie Community College on Feb. 28, 2025. His 131 made three-pointers led NJCAA Division I in 2024-25.
During his first season at Casper, Bashir appeared in 33 games for the Thunderbirds, making 32 starts. Casper finished 24-9, while he averaged 19.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. Bashir led the team in scoring and was 15th nationally at the NJCAA Division I level. Overall, he shot 45.3 percent (124-174) from beyond the arc and 78.5 percent (84-107) from the free throw line this season. Bashir also led the team in steals (49) and was second in assists (106).
Bashir played high school basketball at Colorado Prep in Westminster, Colo. He also has a twin brother, Abdi, who played at Monmouth and Kansas State before recently committing to Louisiana State (LSU). Originally from Omaha, Neb., his family hails from Somalia.
