DAVIS, Calif. – The San Francisco women's tennis team notched two singles victories on Sunday at UC Davis, but fell to the Aggies, 5-2, at Marya Welch Tennis Center.
The Dons earned its points at the Nos. 2 and 4 positions in singles play. Sophomore Margarita Treyes, playing in her first season for the Dons, took down Kristina Breisacher in come-from-behind fashion. Dropping the first set 6-4, she returned the favor in the second and pulled out the 10-6 victory in the third.
Freshman
Emily Maxfield nabbed the point after her opponent Jessie Lee retired near the end of the first set. Another notable performance for the USF squad came from the No. 5 position. Despite dropping the decision,
Hanna Borjeson made her way to the court for the Dons in singles action for the first time since April 2016.
"Margarita played with a lot of grit in closing out her match setting a great example for her teammates," noted head coach
Hilary Somers. "Emily played a great match for her second college dual match. She was down 2-5 in the first set and came back to 6-5 before her opponent retired. Hanna was back in action for singles for the first time since the end of last season, and it's great to have her back out there competing and looking so fit."
USF looks for its first dual match win of the spring Friday afternoon, as the Dons host Cal State Fullerton at noon on the courts of The Olympic Club.
