THE RUNDOWN
STOCKTON, Calif. – The USF men's tennis team wrapped up play at the ITA Regional Championships in Stockton, Calif. After four days of competition, the Dons finished with a program-tying mark by
Johan Joenhagen and two doubles who advanced to the round of 16.
The ITA Regional Championships featured some of the top men's and women's players across the country. Over 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the country.
SINGLES
Joenhagen's semi-final finish highlighted the event for the Dons, matching the modern history record at USF for furthest singles finish set by Pablo Pires de Almeida in 2004.
Joenhagen, a senior from Stockholm, Sweden, was downed by Cal's Jack Malloy (5) in the final match before the championship round. Joenhagen was seeded 11th entering the event. He defeated opponents from UC Davis, Saint Mary's, Portland, Cal and Oregon. His final two matches before the semifinal were against higher-seeded opponents including Cal's No. 1 Billy Griffith and Oregon's No. 7 Simon Stevens.
Mert Zincirli advanced to the round of 32 and had a very close match against Sac State's No. 1 player, but lost a deuce point in the third set to lose the match 6-4 in the third set.
Oliver Poysti won his first match against a seeded opponent, Jack Barber of Stanford, before entering consolation singles after sustaining a second round loss to Ty Gentry of Oregon. He went 1-for-2 in Saturday and Sunday's consolation brackets.
DOUBLES

Lucas Marinelli with
Poysti each advanced to the round of 16.
Zincirli/Joenhagen eventually fell to No. 3 seeded Cormac Clissold and Thomas Lauren of Oregon, while Marinelli/Poysti were taken down by No. 2 seeded Akram El Sallaly and Bernardo Oliveira of Pacific.
