COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Alex Short continues to cement his name in the annals of San Francisco track and field and cross country, competing at the NCAA Indoor National Championships on Friday night at Gilliam Indoor Track.
The first Don to compete at the indoor championships, and the first male to reach an NCAA final, Short comes away from the meet with a 16th place finish after recording a 5,000 meter finishing time of 14:23.26.
As one of the top 16 men in the country in the 5K, Short is now a second-team All-American on the track, going along with his first-team honors on the cross country course last fall.
"I am extremely proud to have had Alex as our first ever NCAA Indoor National competitor," remarked USF head coach Helen Lehman-Winters. "He had a rough time staying relaxed and managing his position in a dense pack on the banked track. However, this was a good experience for him and it will help him tremendously as he moves into the outdoor season."
The 5,000 meter crown went to Oregon's Edward Cheserek, who now stands atop the record books with the most NCAA track and field championships to his name in history, after winning his 16th title.
USF continues on the outdoor track tomorrow, with a contingent competing at UC Davis' Aggie Open.
