SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco women's tennis team battled to the final point before eventually succumbing to the visiting Illinois State Redbirds on Tuesday afternoon at The Olympic Club.

The Dons dropped the doubles point swiftly before rebounding to knot the score off the hot racquet of Hanna Borjeson, who extended her winning streak to eight. She got the 6-2, 6-0 victory over Jana Kustkova and senior Genevieve McCloskey gave the Dons the advantage after a straight-set win on Court 2.

Illinois State got the next two match points to edge out to the lead before Margarita Treyes knotted the score at three-all after taking the 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory over Gabriela Sprague at No. 4. Coming down to the No. 6 position, Alisha Sharma took the 6-2 win in set one before Andrea Beneroso rallied for the point and clinched the win for the visitors.

Up next, the women travel to the Pacific Northwest to open West Coast Conference play with a pair of weekend matches at Portland and Gonzaga. The Dons take on the Pilots to start the road swing next Friday, March 24.
