CLAREMONT, Calif. – The San Francisco men's tennis team closed out the 2017 campaign at the West Coast Conference, falling to San Diego 5-0 in the opening round of the brackets on Thursday afternoon.

The Dons knew it would be a tall task to take on the perennial power in the #4/#5 matchup, and the Toreros displayed their strength, taking down USF for the second match in a row.

San Diego earned the doubles point to open the day and went on to score four more in singles play to earn the 5-0 victory. Despite the tough day on the courts for the Dons, two competitive singles matches were being contested when the match was halted.

On Court 3, Ryan Marker took the first set from Joshua Page 6-1, and the San Diego foe evened the match with a second-set win. The third frame was 2-1 in favor of Marker as play stopped. Oliver Poysti was also entrenched in a competitive battle at No. 4, as the junior from Danderyd, Sweden played to a 6-4 win in the first set. Poysti was leading Guus Koevermans 5-4 in the second but the late-match rally with the final two men on the court fell short for the Dons.

The Dons close the season with a 10-14 dual match record while San Diego improves to 15-10 and advances to face top-seeded Pepperdine on Friday.
