LOS ANGELES – Continuing to compete with injury-altered lineups, the San Francisco women's tennis team fell at Loyola Marymount 4-0 on Friday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Center.
"It was tough with Gen and Anna out for singles, and we are just battling to have a full line up so we can compete at each spot," noted USF head coach
Hilary Somers. "Shanna [Dos Santos] has been a missing part and got out there and competed well for her first match back."
The Dons dropped the doubles point to start the day, and quickly got down 2-0 in the match after
Anna Sokiran was forced to retire on Court 1. Loyola Marymount then recorded points at Nos. 4 and 5 to clinch the match and halt play.
Taking on Tatijana Sheikhan on Court 6, USF's
Margarita Treyes was up 6-2, 4-2 when the match was suspended. At No. 3,
Emily Maxfield was locked into an intense battle with Loyola Marymount's Siobhan Anderson. Also shaping up to be a hotly-contested dual,
Genevieve McCloskey was dueling with Elvira Juravliova as the first set was knotted 6-6 with a 10-9 tiebreaker score before the Lions clinched the win.
The Lions advanced their record to 10-6 on the year, and sport an 8-3 record on their home court, while USF moves to 4-13 (1-4 WCC) after the defeat.
The Dons face a quick turnaround to rebound, taking on Pepperdine on Saturday in Malibu, Calif.
