VIDEO: To Be a Don: Bradley Zimmer

The Cleveland Indians announced today the club has purchased the contract of former USF standout Bradley Zimmer from Triple A Columbus to bolster the Tribe's injury-plagued outfield.

Zimmer, who was drafted 21st overall by Cleveland in the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft, will be in uniform for the Indians' home game tonight Tampa.

Zimmer was batting .294 with five home runs, two triples, 11 doubles and nine stolen bases in 33 games for Columbus this season. He is the fourth USF player coached by Nino Giarrantano to reach the Major Leagues, following Jesse Foppert, Aaron Poreda and Scott Cousins.

"This is a very proud moment for the USF baseball family," said Giarratano. "Bradley is a wonderful representative of the University and his family. We hope he has a long, Major League career."

Zimmer was the fourth Diamond Don ever to be selected in the first round and the first since his brother, Kyle, was selected fifth overall by the Kansas City Royals in 2012. Zimmer hit .368 with seven home runs, 31 RBI, a team-record seven triples and swiped 21 bases as a junior in 2014, earning first team Baseball America All-America honors. He was also a two-time All-WCC first round selection.
