SAN BRUNO -- The University of San Francisco men's tennis team was picked to finish sixth in the West Coast Conference preseason polls on Wednesday, Jan. 17 for the upcoming 2018 spring season.
Voted on by the league head coaches, San Diego, four-time reigning champions of the WCC, took the first place spot with 74 points. Pepperdine and Portland follow in second and third with 72 and 70 points, respectively. BYU (48) and Loyola Marymount (46) followed in fourth and fifth with the Dons tallying up 41 points.
The highest the Dons have placed in preseason polls was fourth in the 2014 spring season. USF placed seventh in the polls last season.
USF has seven returning players from last season, including Johan Joenhangen, who is also one of 10 players named to the 2017-2018 All-WCC preseason men's tennis team.
The Dons opened their spring season Friday, Jan. 12-14 at the
NCTC Tournament where they took the champion titles in both singles and doubles. The first dual matchup for the Dons will be on Friday, Jan. 19 against Stanford University at 3 p.m.
