SAN FRANCISCO -- The University of San Francisco women's tennis team opened its spring season with a win over the Dominican Penguins on Friday, Jan. 19, dominating 7-0 at the Olympic Club.
"It was a great start to our season," said head coach
Peter Bartlett. "The team was able to test some of their current skill and nerves in competitively play. We had a strong showing in our debut against a good Dominican team and will use this match to continue to get better."
The match began with solid doubles from the Dons.
Emily Maxfield and
Mya Bui dominated their Dominican matchup 6-0. This set the tone for the rest of the doubles as
Anna Sokiran and
Margarita Treyes (6-3), and
Shanna Dos Santos and
Amber Del Rosario (6-4) took down their opponents as well.
USF continued in singles play, sweeping the field with wins across the court. Bui (6-0, 6-0) did not allow her opponent to win a set in both matches and the rest of her team had strong performances as well. Maxfield started with a 6-3, 6-0 win over her opponent followed by a 6-2, 6-3 victory for Sokiran.
Alisha Sharma and Treyes put up solid 6-3, 6-1 matches and Rosario topped off the day with a 6-2, 6-1 win.

UP NEXT
The Dons are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 3 against UC Santa Barbara. This will be the Dons first away test of the spring season and is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
