INDIANAPOLIS —
San Francisco men's cross country senior Jack Rowe will represent the Dons at the 2018 NCAA Cross Country Championship as one of 38 individuals selected for the event, announced Saturday by the organization.

Rowe finished fifth overall as USF's top finisher at Friday's NCAA West Regional at Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento, Calif. He was the third individual finisher, as race winner Nick Hauger of Portland and fourth-place finisher Tanner Anderson of Washington automatically qualified with their respective teams for finishing first and second, respectively.

The NCAA Championship will take place on Saturday at the University of Wisconsin's Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Madison, Wis. The men's race starts at 9:45 a.m. PST/11:45 a.m. CST.

Rowe ran alongside teammate Chris Olley with the lead pack for the entire race on Friday. He finished fifth out of more than 200 competitors with a time of 29 minutes, 45.7 seconds across the 10-kilometer course. He was just 3.3 seconds behind Hauger, whom he finished more than a minute behind two weeks ago at the West Coast Conference Championship.

"Jack's effort at the regional meet was simply phenomenal," said San Francisco head coach Pat McCurry. "Getting it done at the highest level at the most critical moment."

Rowe is one of four individuals selected from the West Region, joining fellow WCC runner Koby Pederson of Loyola Marymount, cross-bay neighbor Garrett Corcoran of California, and Carlos Villareal from Arizona.

Rowe ran twice already this season on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. He finished 141st in 24:46.8 on Sept. 28 at the prestigious Nuttycombe Invitational, then finished 42nd with a time 15 seconds faster than his last, running 24:31.1 at the Pre-Nationals Meet on Oct. 13.
