SAN BRUNO, Calif. — The University of San Francisco athletics department is among the best in the West Coast Conference through the fall season, as the conference office announced updated Commissioner's Cup standings through the fall sports Friday, with the Dons in third, just one point behind the No. 2 spot.

San Francisco benefited from much success in the fall to stay among the conference's elite. The Dons totaled 30.5 points through the fall, with Portland collecting 31.5 points and six-time defending Commissioner's Cup winner BYU totaling 40. San Francisco is also just a half-point behind the Pilots in the men's all-sports trophy, 15.0 to 14.5. The Dons won their fourth men's all-sport trophy last year.

Saint Mary's is fourth (29.0) and San Diego (27.0) is fifth. Loyola Marymount (25.0) is sixth followed by Gonzaga (24.5) in seventh place. Santa Clara (24.0), Pepperdine (22.0) and Pacific (17.5) round out the standings.

The Dons are already off to a great start in the winter season. The USF men's basketball team is currently one of 17 remaining undefeated teams in the country thanks to a 7-0 start. The USF women's team won two of their first three games this season and roll into the 2018-19 campaign with back-to-back top-five finishes in the WCC standings the last two years.

The next update in the race for the Commissioner's Cup will come after the men's and women's basketball seasons conclude at the 2019 WCC Basketball Championships, held March 7-12 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
