Four Dons Earn All-Academic Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Senior Chase Foster, junior Nate Renfro, and sophomore Jordan Ratinho were named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic Team, with junior Matt McCarthy being named to the Honorable Mention Team, as announced today by the conference office.
 
To qualify, a student-athlete must be of at least sophomore standing, own a minimum 3.20 grade point average and be a starter or an important reserve, having participated in at least 50 percent of the institution's completed contests.
 
For Foster, this is his third and final time on the list.  He is one of two players to earn the recognition three times.  The senior sports a 3.78 cumulative grade point average as an economics major.  This season, Foster is fourth on the team averaging 10.3 points per game while grabbing 4.3 rebounds per contest.
 
Renfro, a business administration major with a 3.77 GPA, earns first team honors for the second time.  The Dons' co-captain posted a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall semester.  He's currently averaging 5.5 points per game and grabbing 4.9 rebounds per contest.  His 29 blocks are ninth in the WCC.
 
Ratinho, also a business administration major, with a 3.83 GPA earns first team honors in his first time being eligible.  Ratinho, is already in the top-10 all time for 3-point field goals made, with 116 which is eighth all-time. This season he's averaging 10.4 points per game.
 
McCarthy, a kinesiology major with a 3.23 cumulative GPA, earns Honorable Mention honors for the first time.  He currently leads the Dons with 145 rebounds, averaging 5.2 rebounds per contest.
 
The quartet are four of 11 players on USF's roster with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.  The men's basketball team posted a 3.36 GPA last semester.
 
The Dons will return to action Thursday night when they travel to Stockton to take on Pacific at 7:00 p.m. at the Alex G. Spanos Center.  The Dons will wrap up the regular season at home on Saturday when San Diego comes to town.
