SAN LUIS OBPISPO, Calif. -- The University of San Francisco women's tennis team looked for redemption on the road as it headed south for a matchup against Cal Poly on Sunday, Feb. 4 at Mustang Tennis Complex. The Dons finished with a 2-5 loss.

"We had a hard fought match versus a much improved Cal Poly team," said head coach
Peter Bartlett. "We knew it was going to come down to a few points."

The Mustangs took two match wins to start the day over
Anna Sokiran and
Alexa Meyer (7-6), and
Shanna Dos Santos and
Margarita Treyes (6-3). The Dons however finished doubles with a silver-lining win from
Mya Bui and
Emily Maxfield over Cal Poly, 6-3.

Bui followed her doubles match with a singles win, (6-1, 6-4) over Cal Poly's Molly Reed. The Mustangs answered with a win over Meyer, 6-1, 6-2. Dos Santos (6-2, 6-4) and Treyes (6-3, 6-1) scored a few set points in a great match, but fell to Cal Poly in the end.

Anna Sokiran battled strong, winning the first game if her match, taking her opponent into the third game to decide the victor. With Cal Poly already ahead, Maxfield closed out singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win.

"Overall we were pleased with our preparation and team support," Bartlett said. "We will continue going forward to get more experience in these close matches."
