THE RUNDOWN
The University of San Francisco's men's and women's track team prepare for a long weekend of competition as they send their largest contingent of athletes to compete at the Stanford Invitational and the San Francisco State Distance Carnival on Friday and Saturday.
Nine USF athletes will take to Chabot College for the SF State Distance Carnival. Mohamed Aziz, a 2017 NCAA qualifier, will hit the track to compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, his best event. This will be the first time this outdoor season that he'll take part in the event. Last year at this meet, Aziz set a personal record of 8:57.77 and will look to build on that success this year. Freshman Isaias DeLeon will make his collegiate debut in the steeplechase.
USF will send 16 athletes to compete in the Stanford Invitational, one of the most competitive track and field meets in the country.
Marie Bouchard, who has put together a solid start to her 2018 track and field campaign, will look to build off those performances at the Stanford Invitational. The senior will be competing in the 3,000m steeplechase against the 2017 NCAA champion, Boise State's Allie Ostrander. Joining Bouchard and competing unattached will be Lizzie Bird.
Samantha Lind will take to the track in the 400m two weeks after besting her previous record with a time of 55.21 at the Hornet Invitational. Lind's current mark in the 400m puts her in 25th in the NCAA West Region. To cap off the evening for the women, Tatjana Schulte will toe the line in the 10,000m.
For the men, Hugh Nicklason will make his outdoor season debut in the 1,500m, the event he holds the school record in. Joining Nicklason in the 1,500m will be Scott Halsted and Henry Mong.
Fresh off his win in the 1,500m at the Hornet Invitational, Jacob Allen will look to continue that momentum as he competes in the 5,000m on Friday.
In one of the last events of the day, Jack Rowe will not only make his collegiate debut in the 10,000m, but his first ever race in that event. The senior from London has already impressed on the indoor oval, setting a school record in the 3,000m at the UW Invitational.
Emma Stahr and Alena Ulrichova will compete in the 800m on the second day of the Stanford Invitational. Stahr holds the school record in the event. For the men, Henry Mong will be competing in the 800m.
In the 200m, school record holder Asaundra Dalton will take to the track looking to build off of her performances during the indoor season.
The 4x400m relay team of Lind, Dalton, Ulrichova and Stahr will cap the weekend for USF. The last two times the Dons have competed in this event they have bested the previous school record.
