MTN | Dons Drop Close Match Against Santa Clara

SAN FRANCISCO -- The University of San Francisco men's tennis team faced Santa Clara in its last home match of the season at the Cal Club on Saturday afternoon. After securing the doubles point, the Dons couldn't hold on and dropped a tight 2-4 match.

To start the match, the Dons were even with Santa Clara after both teams recorded doubles wins. It was up to Mert Zincirli and Oliver Poysti to seal the deal and earned the doubles point after a 7-6 match win.

Ryan Marker started singles with a 4-6, 1-6 dropped match, but Johan Joenhagen was quick to give his team the lead, winning his sets 6-2, 6-3. Santa Clara however clinched the match after securing four single wins in a row and the last singles match went unfinished.

COACHES CORNER
"We got off to a good start winning the doubles and we were not able to close out matches in the end. It was up to the Dons to close out sets, but we were not able to do it on enough courts. While it was a very disappointing senior day after a great start in doubles, I'd like to thank all the families, USF administrators and fans that came out to watch. It was a great college duel." — Head coach Pablo Pires de Almeida.
