MTN | Dons receive ITA Scholar Athlete and All-Academic Team honors

TEMPE, Ariz. --  The Intercollegiate Tennis Association has recognized the University of San Francisco men's tennis team as six Dons received ITA Scholar Athletes honors for the previous 2017-18 season.

"I am very proud of the Dons this year as they all pulled together to achieve our highest team GPA in recent memory," said head coach Pablo Pires de Almeida. "Many of my guys were seniors and really wanted to finish strong. The next generation of Dons is now ready to keep this standard."

Ryan Marker led his team with a GPA of 3.887 followed by Johan Joenhagen's 3.753 in entrepreneurship and innovation and Mert Zincirli's 3.638 GPA in economics. Paul Giraud (Economics - 3.588), Marco Barretto (Economics - 3.539) and Oliver Poysti (Finance - 3.506) also gained Scholar-Athlete status.

Combining the team's academic success, the Dons finished last year with a team GPA of 3.664, receiving All-Academic Team recognition as well.

In order to earn a ITA Scholar Athlete honor, a student-athlete must be a varsity letter winner, have a GPA of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale for the current academic year, and be enrolled in classes for at least two semesters.
