SAN BRUNO, Calif. — San Francisco women's soccer forward
Miciah Madison was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week Monday for the week of Aug. 27 to Sept. 2 after having a hand in both of the Dons' game-winning goals over the weekend.
Â
Madison tallied her first goal of the season in the first half Friday versus UC Santa Barbara. She stuck her leg out on a bouncing ball inside the box to send it in the air and over the UCSB 'keeper for the score from 12 yards out. That goal would go on to be the game-winner as USF shut out the Gauchos, 2-0.
Â
With just 10 seconds left in double overtime Sunday versus New Mexico, Madison dribbled the ball down the right side line into the corner, where she crossed it low to the center. The UNM goalkeeper got a piece of the ball, but Madison's teammate
Autumn Smithers found the loose ball for the overtime winner and an assist for Madison on the game-winning goal.
Â
For the week, she tallied a team-high three points with a goal and an assist. She also had 11 shots - five on goal for a 45.5 percent shots on goal percentage. The Dons have now won three in a row with Madison having at least one point in all three victories.
Â
Madison's WCC POTW honor is the second in three weeks of the season for USF.
Samantha Jehnings scored four goals in the Dons' opening week to earn the first nod of the year.
Â
Madison and the Dons take their winning streak on the road next weekend to the state of Oklahoma, where they will face Big 12 Conference members Oklahoma (Friday) and Oklahoma State (Sunday).
