SAN FRANCISCO — The University of San Francisco's men's tennis team opened its season at the San Francisco City Open in Golden Gate Park followed by this weekend's Silverado Collegiate Invitational in Napa.

San Francisco began the season with a dominating performance as five different Dons made it to Quarterfinal rounds at Golden Gate Park. In singles, Nitzan Ricklis and Paul Giraud faced their own teammates in Quarterfinals and excelled to the Semifinals where Giraud came out with a 6-3; 3-6; 1-0 (7) victory over Ricklis. Phuc Huynh and Romeo Midtgaard Jivraj were two other singles that faced each other in Quarterfinals as Jivraj was the one who continued on to the Semifinals with a 6-2; 4-6; 1-0 (7) score. Both Giraud and Jivraj made it to the finals as singles where they both competed against one another. Jivraj concluded the draw with a 7-6 (1); 6-2 win.

As doubles, Jivraj and Ricklis fell in Quarterfinals 8-1, but duo Huynh and Giraud took its competitiveness all the way to the championships as they swept three other doubles and went home with an undefeated draw for the Dons.

"Our staff was very happy with the ways the guys represented themselves at this years SF Open. It's an outside competition for us so the players all need to compete on their own and support each other. Winning the tournament in singles and doubles was their goal," said Head Coach Pablo Pires de Almedia.

"Romeo ended up winning the event in singles over Paul and Paul teamed up with Phuc to win the doubles. Good start for the guys at a local event with other college, men's and junior players competing."

In day one of the Silverado Invitational, doubles Giraud and Ricklis and Huynh and Jivraj both fell to California, 8-5, but the Dons turned it around when Giraud, Ricklis, Jivraj and Huynh swept all of UNLV's singles.

Day two of the Invitational continued with success for the Dons singles. On court two Ricklis beat UNLV's Jordan Sauer with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 score. Jivraj and Huynf sealed the deal for USF on court three and eight as Jivraj beat his opponent with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 score. Huynf knocked out his contender scoring, 7-5, 6-3.
