FRESNO, CALIF. - The University of San Francisco men's tennis team had an impressive showing during day two of the Bulldog Fall Classic today. The Dons will advance to the final day of the classic and battle for the singles and doubles titles.
"It was another great day for the Dons," said assistant head coach
JT Sundling. "We were able to win 12 of the 14 matches we played today and we are looking to keep the momentum rolling into tomorrow. Â The guys have been playing better each day and want to bring a few titles back with us to San Francisco."
Doubles pair
Nitzan Ricklis and
Mitch Johnson got the ball rolling for the Dons with a 8-6 win over Sacramento State's Hermont Legaspi and Michael Vizcarra.
David Woodland and his partner
Johan Garpered were unstoppable in doubles as they defeated Jackson Hawk and Akbarmirzo Mamirov from Saint Mary's 8-1, and UC Riverside's Nikita Horunzhy and Diego Gomez-Martin 8-1.
In singles,
Paul Giraud topped Saint Mary's Karlo Divkovic 6-3, 6-2. Ricklis breezed through singles with wins over UC Davis' Arjith Jayaraman (6-2, 3-6, 6-3) and Legaspi (6-7, 6-0, 4-4 (default)).
Phuc Huynh also recorded two match wins, defeating Saint Mary's Matias Bot 7-5, 6-0 and Garpered 6-1, 6-3. Garpered did get a win over Brett Brinkman from UC Davis 6-2, 7-6.
To finish the day, Johnson won his matches against UC Davis' Mitchell Davis (6-3, 6-1) and Horunzhy (3-6, 6-2, 13-11). Woodland got a singles win as well, defeating Elliot Anarp from Sacramento State 5-7, 6-2, 10-8.
