SEATTLE — It was another record day for
Dana Klein and the San Francisco track team Saturday, as Klein ran a USF program record in the 3,000 meters on the final day of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Washington's Dempsey Indoor facility.
Â
Klein ran the 3,000 meters in 9 minutes, 8.38 seconds to set a USF program record and a new personal best. Her time was four seconds faster than her last personal best set two weeks ago on the same track at the Husky Classic. Her time of 9:08.38 completed a season journey in which she lowered her personal best by nearly 20 seconds after starting the season at 9:27.
Â
Klein finished fifth overall in the event that featured 60 competitors. She defeated runners from 10 different Pac-12 programs – Stanford, Washington, Colorado, Oregon, Arizona, Oregon State, Arizona State, Washington State, UCLA and California – as well as familiar foes from West Coast Conference rivals Portland and BYU.
Â
Josephine Brysting (38th, 9:51.73) and Josien Sheepens (52nd, 10:02.38) also competed in the 3,000 meters Saturday. Merel van der Marel (34th, 5:12.60) and
Valerie Almanza (42nd, 5:35.51) both competed in the mile to round out the distance crew's weekend.
Â
Faith Cardenas landed a top-40 spot for the Dons in the 400, breaking the 60-seconds mark at 59.78. The Dons also competed in the indoor 4x400 relay, finishing 19th in 3:55.75.
Â
San Francisco now looks ahead to the outdoor season, which kicks off for both the USF men's and women's outdoor track teams on Saturday in Berkeley, Calif., at California's Outdoor Opener.
