SAN LUIS OBISPO - The University of San Francisco's men's tennis team came off to a great start in doubles play, but as every singles match came down to deuce points, the Cal Poly Mustangs pulled away with a 4-1 victory, Friday afternoon at the Mustang Tennis Complex.
It all started when
Oz Daniel and
Phuc Huynh ended up clinching the doubles point to secure the victory over Mustangs' Josh Ortlip and Roman Shenkiryk, 7-6 (4) followed by
Ryan Marker and
Paul Giraud's strong win over Gary Vardanyan and Dominic Bechard, 6-3.
Cal Poly bounced back and won four singles matches as two of them remained unfinished to seal its victory. "The Mustangs hung tougher than us to win 3-6 in singles. We competed well. We need to bounce back tomorrow against Irvine," said Head Coach
Pablo Pires de Almeida.
San Francisco heads to UC Irvine on Saturday. Match start is slated for 11 a.m.
