FINAL RESULTS
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The San Francisco men's and women's track teams got a full slate of outdoor action under their belt Saturday in their second meet of the outdoor season, grabbing an event win and posting more outdoor event debuts for 2019 during the Hornet Invitational at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium.
Â
Chris Olley won the men's 1,500 meters in a tactical race that saw teammate
Jack Rowe lead the pace and help carry Olley past California's Takeshi Okada by more than half a second for the win in 3 minutes, 47.43 seconds. Rowe would finish sixth in 3:50.09 after setting the pace, giving the Dons two in the top-10 out of a field of more than 85.
Â
Dana Klein ran a very strong 800 meters – her secondary event – and placed fifth in a field of more than 50 with a time of 2:12.33. She was less than four seconds behind race winner Amy Quinones of host Sacramento State while running in the fastest heat of the day.
Megan Davies finished ninth in 2:15.73 to give the Dons two among the top-10, matching Cal's same feat in the event.
Â
Freshman
Faith Cardenas set a personal best in the 400 meters, running 57.88 seconds to place among the top-20.
Samantha Lind cracked the top-10 with her time of 56.50, less than two seconds behind the winner, San Francisco State's Timarya Baynard.
Hannah Esparza also dipped under the minute mark with her time of 59.98 seconds, giving the Dons three 400 runners under 60 seconds.
Â
Julija Praprotnik also debuted outdoors in the 400-meter hurdles for the first time this season, placing sixth with a solid race in 1:03.87.
Â
"We had good work-piece races today to work on execution before our focus-meets in April," said San Francisco head coach
Pat McCurry.
Â
The Dons take a week off before next competing at two Bay Area meets at the end of March. Those who qualify will take part in the prestigious Stanford Invitational on March 29 and 30. Also taking place on March 29 and 30 is the highly competitive San Francisco State Distance Carnival.
