STANFORD, Calif. — The University of San Francisco's men's tennis team fell in a competitive Wednesday afternoon match against No. 10 Stanford, 7-0 at the Taube Family Tennis Center.
Both teams jumped out to a determined start as Romeo Jivraj and
Nitzan Ricklis notched the Dons first doubles point, 6-3 over Sameer Kumar and Timothy Sah at No. 3. The duo recorded its second straight win at No. 3.
San Francisco faced its toughest singles opponents so far this season. Freshman
Phuc Huynh and
Oz Daniel highlighted the singles play by taking its matches to three solid sets. Huynh faced No. 61 Sameer Kumar and recorded a victory in the first set, 6-4 and put Kumar to the test in the third but fell in a heartbreaker, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5). Just like Huynh, Daniel was highly competitive at No. 4, taking on Michael Genender in a three set tie breaker. Daniel secured the second set, 7-6(9), but wasn't able to surrender the third set, falling 7-6 (4), 6-7 (9), 1-0, (10-6).
The Dons return back home to take on Gonzaga and Portland on Friday and Saturday.
