PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Pilots pulled away with a 4-2 win over the University of San Francisco's women's tennis team on Saturday morning inside the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. The Dons are 8-8 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Portland secured the doubles point to open the match with wins on all three courts. In singles,
Emily Maxfield at No. 2 raced to a 6-1, 6-1 straight set win over Raphaelle Leblanc. Maxfield continues to lead the team with a 12-1 singles record. The Pilots collected two key wins in the No. 1 and 3 spots to give them a 3-1 advantage over the Dons. Senior
Margarita Treyes posted an impressive 6-1, 6-0 win over Marija Elenova right after the match was clinched at No 5 when Portlands' Lourdes Ramalle defeated
Rita Colyer, 6-2, 6-1.
"We didn't get the start we were looking for in doubles.
Emily Maxfield and
Margarita Treyes did great jobs in their matches. Portland is a tricky place to play and they were a little more disciplined at the end when it mattered," said assistant coach
Sean Dizon.
