BRISBANE, Calif. — The San Francisco beach volleyball team wrapped up the 2019 regular season with momentum Tuesday, topping Northern California neighbor Pacific, 3-2, at the Mission Blue Sand Courts ahead of this weekend's West Coast Conference Beach Volleyball Championship Tournament.
Â
No. 1 pair
Carly Lowry and
Anna Dalla Vecchia got back on the winning track with a sweep, but it didn't come easy. The Dons duo beat Pacific's Alex Holt and Jadyn Tubbs in straight sets, but it took 10 extra points in the first set (26-24), and eight extra points in the second set (25-23) to get it done.
Â
Madelyn LaFollette and
Emily Zinger also won at the No. 2 pairs spot, giving the Dons (10-11) a victorious 1-2 punch at the top. USF's pair swept the Tigers' (0-13) Lucy Carpenter and Kennedy Kaminsky, 21-14, 21-15.
Â
The clinching victory for the Dons came at the No. 5 pairs spot, where
Lena Bondar and
Tanner Shayne Pemberton earned a sweep over Alyna Abeleda-Mostajo and Sarah Bethea to give the Dons the essential third pairs victory for the match win. The duo won the first set, 21-16, then dominated the second set, 21-9.
Â
San Francisco will play as the No. 4 seed in the 2019 WCC Beach Volleyball Championship, kicking off play at 9 a.m. Friday versus South Bay rival Santa Clara.
