BURLINGAME, Calif. — The University of San Francisco's women's tennis team fell in a hard-fought West Coast Conference battle to BYU, 4-0 on Friday afternoon at the Burlingame Tennis Center.
"We lost a hard fought match to a good BYU team. Unfortunately we had to play an indoor match because of the bad weather against an indoor team in BYU. We felt we had some opportunities today but in the end were not able to capitalize on those opportunities to turn the match in our favor," said head coach
Peter Bartlett.
In doubles, the No. 3 duo of
Margarita Treyes and
Hanna Borjeson demanded a 6-3 victory over Taylah Beckman and Samantha Smith. Treyes and Borjson tallied their first win as a duo so far this season. The Cougars clinched the doubles point at No. 1 over
Mya Bui and
Emily Maxfield, 6-4.
BYU continued to find its rhythm in singles competition after collecting three key wins in the No. 2, 4, 3 spots. Borjeson was the highlight of the Dons singles action at No. 3, when she took her match two three sets to BYU's undefeated (12-0) Polina Malykh. Although, Borjeson did not pull away with the victory, she saw a 6-2 win in the first set and challenged Malykh the rest the way, 7-5, 6-0.
San Francisco is 8-9 overall and 1-4 in conference play. The Dons face San Diego on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Olympic Club.
