Three Dons Honored at USF’s 24th Annual Student Leadership Awards

SAN FRANCISCO – Three members of the University of San Francisco athletics department were honored by the Division of Student Life in the 27th Annual Student Leadership Awards in Xavier Auditorium in Fromm Hall.

Director of Athletics, Joan McDermott presented the Anne Dolan Award for Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year to Sadi Henderson of women's track and field.  McDermott then presented the Bill Russell Award to Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year to men's basketball senior Frankie Ferrari and baseball's junior Riley Ornido.

All three athletes were presented these awards last week at the annual Hilltop Awards but were also recognized by the campus community last night.  The Dons' honorees three of 31 members of the campus community to earn various awards.

Ferrari and Ornido were not in attendance on Wednesday evening.  Ferrari was back east preparing for the NBA draft and Ornido had a final.  Henderson was joined on stage by her coaches Pat McCurry and Tim Riley.

The awards are hosted by the Division of Student Life and serve as a space to recognize exemplary leadership among our undergraduate and graduate students here at the University. The ceremony includes awards from campus partners, like the McCarthy Center, the Office of the President, and a special award in honor of the Kenney Family for their former USF student who passed away just a few months before his graduation back in the 50s.
