TRK | Dons Qualify Five for NCAA West Prelim Meet

INDIANAPOLIS — The University of San Francisco men's and women's track teams will have five representatives at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary meet next week in Sacramento, Calif., as the NCAA announced Thursday that two USF women and three men made the field.

Sadi Henderson (800 meters) and Dana Klein (1,500 and 5,000) qualified for the Dons on the women's side. Hugh Nicklason (1,500), Chris Olley (5,000) and Jack Rowe (5,000 and 10,000) qualified for the men. Each student-athlete was selected for having one of the top-48 performances in the West Region in their respective events during the regular season. The top-12 finishers at the NCAA West Prelim meet, to be hosted at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium next week, to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on June 5-8 in Austin, Texas.

Henderson's USF program-record 800 time this season of 2:05.01 ranks her 12th in the field of 48. Klein, who ran the third-fastest all-time mark at USF in the 1,500, is ranked ninth in that event with her mark of 4:16.82. She is also ranked 39th in the West in the 5,000 with her time of 16:21.16.

Nicklason qualified in the 1,500 with a time of 3:44.79, ran on April 19 at Azusa Pacific University's Bryan Clay Invitational, and just two seconds off his own program record in the event. Spectators will be seeing double green and gold in the men's 5,000, as the United Kingdom duo of Chris Olley and Jack Rowe both ran under 13:55 in the event and are ranked among the top-26.

Rowe will be seeking an improved finish in the 10,000 from a year ago when he placed 13th – one spot out of advancing to the national championship. This year, he is ranked 10th with a personal best time of 28:50.22. He ran his mark on March 29 at the Stanford Invitational, the second-fastest time in program history.
