DAY TWO RESULTS
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sadi Henderson punched her ticket Friday to the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships with a stellar performance in the 800 meters, finishing third overall at the NCAA West Preliminary meet in a program and personal best time at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium.
Â
Henderson broke her own University of San Francisco record by nearly two seconds, running 2:03.31. She grabbed the last automatic qualifying spot by finishing third in the third heat – the fastest of the day. Henderson was coming out of the first lane, but still managed to run the third fastest time in the event.
Â
"Sadi executed the race brilliantly tonight," said San Francisco head coach
Pat McCurry. "She ran the exact style she needed to in order to advance."
Â
Henderson will be seeking the fifth All-American honor of her career and third consecutive outdoor honor in the 800 when she competes at the national championship meet in Austin, Texas, on June 5-8. Henderson was a two-time All-American (2017 second team, 2018 honorable mention) in the outdoor 800 at Boise State.
Â
"It hasn't been the smoothest road for Sadi this year with the injury she had this winter," added McCurry. "Tonight, she showed the resolve of a truly elite athlete."
Â
USF will have three Dons competing on Saturday, the final day of the NCAA West Preliminary meet, looking for their own berths to the NCAA Championship meet.
Chris Olley and
Jack Rowe will both compete in the men's 5,000 meters.
Dana Klein will also compete in both the women's 1,500 and the 5,000.
