SAN FRANCISCO — The University of San Francisco is pleased to announce its men's and women's basketball teams will play a doubleheader on Nov. 9 at the Chase Center, the brand-new home of the Golden State Warriors.
The twin billing will be the first two collegiate basketball games played at the state-of-the-art arena, which promises to be one of the world's premier athletic venues. The women will host Stanford, and the men will take on Princeton.
"What a fantastic way to kick off the 2019-20 basketball season," said USF Director of Athletics,
Joan McDermott. "We are excited about the opportunity to play the first collegiate basketball games at the Chase Center. This is the beginning of a long partnership with the Warriors as they return to The City, and the matchups will provide a great day of college basketball."
Year four under head coach
Molly Goodenbour will begin on the road, with game two coming against perennial NCAA powerhouse Stanford. The game against the Cardinal will serve as women's basketball's Bay Area debut for 2019-20. It will be the 34th time the two teams have squared off and third straight regular season matchup between the two teams.
On the men's side, USF will begin the season on Nov. 5 with an opponent to be determined. The game against the Tigers on the ninth, will be the third ever matchup between the two storied programs and first since the Dons fell to Princeton 62-42 on Dec. 28, 1987 at the Connecticut Mutual Classic in Hartford.
"It is truly an honor that our program will play the first collegiate men's basketball game on Nov. 9 in the Chase Center in San Francisco," said USF first-year head coach
Todd Golden. "We are excited to lay the foundation of what will be a long and fruitful partnership, and we hope to play many games in the venue as we move forward."
