SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Shayan Charalaghi's two goals made a statement this afternoon at Hornet Field, but it wasn't enough when the University of San Francisco men's soccer team came up short to Sacramento State, 4-2, after a competitive matchup on Thursday afternoon. The Dons fall to 2-4 on the season and the Hornets improve to 5-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams were scoreless up until the 26th minute when Hornets' Benji Kikanovic scored his first out of three goals. At the 30th minute, Kikanovic quickly got past his defender before punching the ball into the top right side of the net. Both of his goals was assisted by Arath Chavez.
At the 44th minute mark, Charalaghi scored his first goal in the green and gold uniform. Ashish Chattha's free kick led to a perfect header by Charalaghi to trail Sacramento State, 2-1 heading into the second half.
After a personal foul committed by the Dons, the Hornets was called up for a penalty kick and pushed their lead, 3-1 at the 51st minute mark.
Charalaghi answered back at the 61st mark when he received a deep pass from Jaidon Reynolds and smoothly scored into the lower right corner of the net.
Hornets' Kikanovic sealed the victory after he beat Ruben Stuiver to the ball and scored on an open net at the 65th minute.
