SAN FRANCISCO — The University of San Francisco women's tennis won the 118th Annual San Francisco City Championship on Monday, Sep. 2. The Dons completed the match with titles in both singles and doubles.
"It's always great having our team compete in this event," said head coach
Peter Bartlett. "This tournament is a city tradition with a lot of history. The USF teams in the past have been very successful in being crowned each year for titles and this year was no different. This year we had again an all USF final."
Senior
Emily Maxfield took the single title with a 6-3, 4-6 (10-8) victory over teammate sophomore Arriana Capogrosso. The Dons also collected the doubles title as junior
Mya Bui and freshman
Chiho Mushika defeated doubles opponents Olive and Daisy Mananapuu 6-3, 6-1.
"This was a great way to start out my senior year and it was really special for me to see my teammates out there supporting me every step of the way," Maxfield said. "After going through a difficult injury over the summer, it was an amazing feeling to be back on to the court. I still have a lot of work ahead of me but I am looking forward to a great fall season with my team."
