SAN FRANCISCO - The University of San Francisco women's tennis team will start the new year on the road in Santa Barbara, Calif. with a match against UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, January 18.
"We are excited to start the season," said head coach
Peter Bartlett. "We just finished a great pre-season with the team. UCSB is a quality team from the Big West and it'll be a strong test for our group. In general, the Dons are motivated to get the duel match season on the way."
LAST TIME OUT
At the San Jose State University Fall Invitational, USF didn't get off to a great start in doubles as both pairs dropped their matches.
Emily Maxfield and
Mya Bui fell 4-6 to Maddie Pothoff and Katya Tabachnik from Santa Clara, and
Alicia Yue and
Chiho Mushika fell 6-7 (3-7; tiebreaker) to Elvena Gevargiz and Caitlyn Frankel from Santa Clara.
The Dons came back in singles however after winning matches on three courts against San Jose State. Bui had a 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9; tiebreaker) win against Rozalina Youseva and Maxfield followed with her own 7-5, 6-2 win over Alba Pedrero Galindo. Yue came up short in her match, but Mushika finished with a 6-0, 6-1 over Lara Marco Mas to close out the singles round.
LAST TIME OUT VS. UCSB
The Dons faced the Gauchos in the 2017-2018 season. To start the match, USF was unable to get the doubles point.
The Dons struggled in singles play as
Amber Del Rosario (1-6, 0-6) and former Don
Alisha Sharma (3-6, 0-6) dropped their matches. Former Don
Anna Sokiran had a strong set against her Gaucho opponent, but fell 4-6, 3-6.
